Jessica Emami earned a PhD in Sociology from George Mason University (GMU) in 2018 and is a former fellow of the GMU Institute for Immigration Research. Her areas of specialty are gender, civic engagement, immigration, and technology. Born and raised in Tehran, Iran until her teenage years, Jessica's approach to sociology is global and multicultural. Her doctoral research analyzed gender the civic engagement of Iranian-Americans. She continues to collaborate on social issues with the Iranian American community. Jessica is passionate about researching the process by which society creates and maintains stable, democratic institutions that foster civic engagement and political participation. She is fluent in Farsi and English, with a working knowledge of Italian and Spanish.
